As long as you have the apm to spread your troops out (which probably takes about 60apm) while also being able to keep production up constantly back at your base (another 30), you should be fine even at the top.Īnd then there's drop play which is pretty action intensive. It comes down to positioning and game sense. #15 Big fights don't really use super intensive micro even in SC1. Do you think it's possible to be a successful top player by focusing on one aspect of control over another? What kind of player are you? I am doing well so far with this approach and it didn't hurt too bad in WC3 (as NE). You won't see me dancing a single drone to keep it alive for 15 minutes. I'll obviously micro the essentials, like casting spells, moving marauders in front to take banelings, surrounding units. I want to be a tactical commander that orders his minions into battle and watch them do my bidding. I understand the game, I watch replays and streams, etc. However, my win % is between 60-70% in plat. I'm a 60 APM player (according to replays). I know that pros are masters of both micro and macro, but I'm wondering whether it is possible to focus mainly on one and still be successful against top players (not pros).

I have been relatively successful in RTSs and reach top 4 plat consistently in SC2 in both 1v1 and 2v2.

I just want to enjoy the fight or continue building my base/army. I don't want to micro individual units and back them up and such. The most I want to do during a big fight is focus fire the major targets (kill the collo fast), cast my spells and then watch the fight.
